AFTERCARE FOR YOUR NEW COSMETIC TATTOO!
You’ve just finished your cosmetic tattoo session at Feather & Blade, and Sis, you look FAB!
Now you might be wondering, “How do I ensure the best-healed results and keep my new tattoo looking great?” We’re here to help!
Aftercare is key.
Cosmetic tattoo is a collaboration between you and your artist. This collaboration starts during your consultation and continues during aftercare. Your artist will have provided you with detailed instructions to take home along with aftercare ointment. They will also give you specific feedback during your session on aftercare based on your skin type and lifestyle. Now that you have amazing resources for your healing process, what’s next?
Trusting the process!
It is important to remain patient during your healing process. All cosmetic tattoos will appear warmer and bolder the first three to five days. By week two your body will have pushed the new pigment down into the dermis to create a substantial bond while also creating a protective layer of skin over-top. Your body is doing amazing things! During this time your tattoo will appear lighter in saturation. No worries, as your skin is still regenerating and naturally exfoliating. At the end of four weeks, you will see the true healed color results when the pigment is completely pushed back to your skin’s surface.

Key points in aftercare:
Wash according to your instructions. This is especially key in the first 24hrs. Washing will continue for the first week.
Refrain from picking. While scabbing should be kept to a minimum with our aftercare, some light scabbing or dryness may occur. It’s best to let your cosmetic tattoo naturally exfoliate without intervention to ensure that pigment is not prematurely lost.
Avoid rapid exfoliants until the skin is healed. This includes skin care products and prolonged sun exposure. Two weeks allows time for your skin to heal so that you may apply protection to your brows.
Avoid submerging brows in bodies of water such as pools, lakes, and the ocean for the first two weeks. While normal showering/bathing is ok, it’s important to allow your skin to heal before taking the plunge into bodies of water.
Avoid sweating/exercise for one week. Sweating pushes pigment out of the dermis before it has time to bond. Additionally, sodium in sweat may break down pigment or interfere with healed color results.
While every client’s skin responds differently to treatments, our aftercare is an essential guide in achieving your best-healed results. We, at Feather & Blade, hope this gives you insight into the importance of the aftercare process. We want the best for your new cosmetic tattoo and love supporting you looking FAB!
